GIVING TO VILLAGE

The Annual Fund Campaign

As with most non-profit independent schools, Village School conducts an Annual Fund Campaign to help bridge the gap between tuition revenues and the actual cost of providing a first-rate private school education. Village depends upon this tradition of giving to enhance all of its programs and facilities, thus enriching the academic, creative and ethical development of each student. The funds also serve to supplement teacher resources, expand the use of technology and provide competitive compensation packages for the faculty.

Each year, Village School parents affirm their commitment to Village School with close to 100% participation in the Annual Fund Campaign. Village School is also very fortunate to have faculty and staff who not only educate, nurture and support our children, but who also choose to make an additional investment in our students by consistently contributing to the Annual Fund with 100% participation.

The generosity exhibited during the Annual Fund Campaign is evidence of our shared commitment to supporting an environment in which our children flourish and experience the joys of learning. Annual giving is a vital link between making our dreams for our students a reality – it ensures that the legacy of Village School will continue for years to come.

Making A Gift

Village School students standing by a wall.

Every contribution to Village School is vitally important to its continued growth and strength. Like those who helped build the school in the past, each donor will be an integral part of the school’s history and future. An investment in Village School will be of benefit to generations of children – a legacy of which we can all be proud. (Village School tax ID #95-4060392)

Cash

For income tax purposes, your cash gift is tax deductible to the full extent allowed by law. Gifts may be made by cash, check or credit card.

Securities

You may achieve significant tax savings by making your gift via stocks or other capital assets. If you have stocks that have appreciated, your charitable deduction may be based on the full market value on the date of the transfer. If you have stocks that have decreased in value, you may be able to take a deductible loss when you sell the stocks and donate the proceeds.

For more information on the process of giving securities, please contact Sue Slotnick, Director of Institutional Advancement at (310) 459-8411 x 603.

Matching Gifts

Many corporations encourage philanthropy by matching employee donations. Matching gifts can double or triple the amount of your gift. Check with your company for more details.

Planned Giving

Donors may wish to consider giving through such means as life insurance, bequests or charitable trusts. Planned giving may be a way to reduce estate and inheritance taxes. We encourage you to speak with your financial planner when considering any type of planned gift.

Building For Our Future Campaign

CAA Interior.
Center for the Arts and Athletics

Village School embarked on the Building For Our Future Campaign during the 2003-2004 school year. Our goal was to raise $8,500,000 to build our Center for the Arts and Athletics. Over the last four years, current parents, alumni parents, grandparents, friends, faculty and staff joined together to reach our goal. The efforts of many Village School families, as well as our extended family, enabled Village School to open The Center for the Arts and Athletics during the 2006-2007 school year.

The facility provides a focus for all arts and athletics operations at the school, either within the normal curriculum or as extracurricular activities. The design is child-oriented in function, containing whimsical and creative elements throughout. The Center for the Arts and Athletics contains an art studio and instruction room, a recording studio, a music classroom and performance space, a dance studio and administrative and faculty offices. In addition, The Center has a state-of-the-art “gymtorium” (a combination gymnasium and theatre), in which physical education classes are conducted, assemblies are held, musical and theatre performances are presented and Village Viking basketball and volleyball teams compete. The facility also sits above two levels of subterranean parking, itself a treasured commodity in the Palisades Village.

The success of this capital campaign is further testament to the commitment exhibited, time and time again, by the Village School community.

    Ms. Malone,

Long time no speak! I saw you walking with Ms. Williams and Ms. Slotnick on the way to an appointment I had in the Village, but I was too far away to you to hear me if I yelled "hello" and was running quite late.

Again, I just wanted to say I think Village has done a great job with its new facilities and am so grateful for the education I received there nearly a decade ago (save for fifth and sixth grades, I truly was receiving the majority of my education there deep in the 1990s!).

It's incredible how much has happened since I've started at The George Washington University. I absolutely love DC; it's a vibrant city with amazing street life and is constantly changing. I just started internship number 11 at the Office of Congressman Howard Berman on Capitol Hill. After working on Hillary's campaign for 15 months, raising money to defeat Prop. 8 at Equality California this summer, and interning Obama's campaign in Virginia this Fall, I thought it'd be appropriate for me to return to serve in government for the first time in over 3 years.

Please send my regards to the staff and faculty at Village School. Although it has been so many years since I've been in elementary school, I would've never made it to where I am today if it weren't for the six years at Village that provided me with the educational foundation that our country should strive for when educating our children. I hope one day we can make the education I received at Village School a reality for all American children.

    Thanks,

    Joe Goldman
