A Peek at Our Week

Asia Dress Up

Kindergarten starts their day with morning journal followed by circle time for calendar and sharing. Students participate in literacy centers four times a week. Literacy centers focus on the five components of reading (phonics, phonemic awareness, vocabulary, fluency and comprehension) through a variety of small group and whole class activities often based on letters or sounds of the week. Math activities are based on the Everyday Math program. The students play games and use manipulatives to explore math concepts several times a week. Weekly skills are also reinforced via the Student Reference math book.

Once a week, Kindergarten students are mixed into three multi-classroom groups for Science and Culture time. Groups rotate through each Kindergarten classroom, participating in three activities (art, science, cooking/games), based on the country they are currently visiting, allowing for deeper exploration of each culture.

Kindergarten students visit each of our six specialist classes on a regular basis. Library, music and art specials are visited once a week. They attend Spanish and PE three times a week. Technology is regularly incorporated into small and whole group classroom lessons. Additionally, students attend class in our technology center every other week to learn new skills and explore school-wide software such as Pixie and Planet Turtle.

Social development is key to the Kindergarten student's year at Village. Days are integrated and balanced with both academic and social time.
