Architectural Update

January 2026

Developed in partnership with Gensler Architects, our new Palisades campus is thoughtfully designed with input from faculty, administrators, and parents. It honors what has always made Village feel like home, while introducing the most forward-thinking ideas in educational design.

Child-scaled spaces, natural materials, and light-filled classrooms create an environment that feels calm, welcoming, and familiar. Flexible learning spaces encourage creativity, movement, and collaboration, while indoor-outdoor connections bring fresh air, greenery, and a sense of ease throughout the day.

The result is a campus that supports curiosity, adapts to the rhythm of school life, and reflects the heart of Village in every detail. A place that feels both deeply known and confidently new.

Architectural & Design Update

October 2025

We are fortunate to be working with Gensler, one of the world’s leading architectural firms. They bring deep expertise in school design and an understanding of what makes Village unique. Gensler has completed the conceptual phase of their work, which included visioning workshops with parents, faculty, trustees, and students.

As part of this process, Gensler shared a wide range of inspiration images with the community. The designs that resonated most strongly with families and faculty are now being carried forward to shape the next phase of the project.

From these conversations, several shared priorities emerged:

  • A campus that feels warm, inviting, and timeless
  • Classrooms filled with natural light
  • Multiple outdoor spaces for learning and play
  • Spaces where kids can simply be kids

What's Next

  • Schematic Design (through 2025): This is where the campus layout begins to take shape — classrooms, gathering areas, playgrounds, and how students will move through them.
  • Specialists Join the Team: Structural engineers, landscape architects, and other experts will contribute to bring the vision to life.
  • Construction Partner (early 2026): A general contractor will be selected to manage the rebuild, ensuring quality, scheduling, and budget are carefully overseen.
  • City Partnership: Ongoing conversations with the City of Los Angeles will help keep the project moving forward as quickly as possible.

We look forward to returning to the Palisades in 2028. Our community has shown extraordinary resilience, and we remain grounded in our shared commitment to rebuilding a campus that reflects the heart and spirit of Village.

With the Palisades now open to the public, we look forward to sharing more regular updates with families. As you scroll through the timeline below, may the images serve as a powerful reminder of all we’ve overcome, the incredible progress to date, and all that lies ahead.

If you have any questions about our return to the Palisades, please email us at community@village-school.org
